Tools exhibition
The exhibition of the traditional tools for the extraction and producing of stone by Antonio Girardi.
The Tools
In the museum complex Cava Bomba there is a little indoor courtyard, equipped with a awning, originally used as a barn, tank for rain water and storage. In the years 1996-97 the keeper of the museum, Antonio Girardi, proposed to exhibit his unique collection of traditional tools for the work in quarries, limestone and trachyte. It was chosen to place the collection under the awning of the courtyard. There are exposed iron wedges “penole” that were inserted into the cracks of the rocks to break them, clubs to beat, “leve”, “levarini” to raise the rock after the explosion obtained with the gunpowder. And againg iron wedges called “punciotti” for cutting the blocks into smaller blocks, bits and bush hammers for the manufacturing with precision. Necessary the forge of the blacksmith to keep the tools efficient.
